Is my Nintendo 64 worth money?
The Nintendo 64 came out in 1996 with four controller ports. The console is model NUS-001; what changes the price is what comes with it: controllers, the Expansion Pak and games.
Which N64 do you have?
| Model | Years | How to tell |
|---|---|---|
| NUS-001 | 1996 to 2001 | Gray, plus special editions: the colored Funtastic series and the Pikachu edition. |
| Jumper Pak, NUS-008 | Inside most consoles | The filler piece in the memory port, under the front lid. |
| Expansion Pak, NUS-007 | Add-on | Doubles the memory; needed for Donkey Kong 64 and Majora's Mask. |
The model number NUS-001 is on the bottom of the console. Under the front lid sits either the Jumper Pak or the Expansion Pak.

Red flags
- A loose, wobbly controller stick.
- The front slot empty: the console needs the Jumper Pak or the Expansion Pak in place.
- Cartridges from Japan or Europe: their notches stop them from fitting a US console.
Good to know about the N64
- The Expansion Pak doubles the memory from 4 MB to 8 MB. Donkey Kong 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask need it; Perfect Dark plays only about 35 percent of the game without it.
- The Controller Pak is the memory card: it plugs into the bottom of the controller. The Rumble Pak plugs in the same place and makes the controller vibrate.
- The Nintendo 64 uses the same video cables as the Super Nintendo and the GameCube: composite or S-Video.
