Is my Rolex real or fake?

Look at the engravings, the date magnifier and the seconds hand first: crude fakes fail there. Good replicas can pass every photo check, so for a watch you are about to pay for, the reliable test is a professional one. On eBay, watches from $2,000 get it for free.

Check before you pay

Red flags

  • A price far below every similar listing.
  • Stock photos, or no clear photo of the serial, the case back and the clasp.
  • "Replica", "homage", "inspired by" or "style" anywhere in the listing.
  • The same serial number in several listings.
  • A seller who asks you to pay outside eBay, which removes eBay's protection and its authentication.

The safe way to buy one

  • A listing priced $2,000 or more: eBay's authenticator checks it before you receive it.
  • Between $500 and $1,999.99: add the $80 Authenticity Guarantee at checkout.
  • Box, papers and service records that carry the same serial as the watch: they add trust, and value when you sell it again.

These checks help you spot a crude fake. They do not prove a watch is real: we do not authenticate anything, and we are not affiliated with Rolex or any other brand.
