How much is an old Singer sewing machine worth?

Millions were made, so most are common; treadle cabinets and rare models stand out. Millions were made: common models in average condition usually sell for a modest price.

What to look for

Check what applies to yours:

• The serial number on the machine body tells you the year it was made.
• Small portable models and complete treadle cabinets are the ones people want.
• Working condition, decals that are not worn off, and the original case and accessories.

Before you sell

• Compare with items that actually sold, not only with asking prices.
• Take clear photos in daylight: front, back, marks and any damage.
• Do not clean coins, and do not repaint or polish old items: it often lowers the value.
• For anything that might be valuable, get an opinion from a certified appraiser or a specialist dealer.
