Are old iPods worth money?

Click-wheel iPods are wanted again for distraction-free listening; the model, the condition and the battery decide. Later iPod shuffle and nano models without their box usually sell for modest amounts.

What to look for

Check what applies to yours:

The model number engraved on the back, such as A1238 for the iPod classic, sold from 2007 to 2014.
Click-wheel models (iPod classic, the older iPods with a wheel, iPod mini) are the ones most people look for.
Does it still charge and play? Many are resold modified with a new battery or flash storage: the listing should say so.
The original box, cable and earbuds, and a screen without deep scratches.

Before you sell

Compare with items that actually sold, not only with asking prices.
Take clear photos in daylight: front, back, marks and any damage.
Do not clean coins, and do not repaint or polish old items: it often lowers the value.
For anything that might be valuable, get an opinion from a certified appraiser or a specialist dealer.
