Is it worth buying a used camera?
Yes: cameras, and lenses even more, hold up well, and used is how many photographers buy. Check the parts that wear: the shutter, the lens glass and, on film cameras, the foam light seals.

Red flags
- "Untested" or "as is" at a working price.
- Photos that avoid showing the lens glass.
- Sand, water or impact marks.
Which ones still make sense
- Well-known 35 mm film cameras and lenses from the big makers: sought after, buy them tested.
- Recent digital cameras with a low shutter count: good value against new.
- eBay Refurbished cameras: inspected and graded, with a warranty (see the grades below).
